TRAPPER THE CYBER SNOOP – Talks with Author, Richard Nurse

Trapper the Cyber Snoop – Once again First with the Story

I sat down with my human companion, Author Richard Nurse, after he went on Amazon, to get the link for his new book, “M is for Malice”, Episode 4 of the “Jasper, Street-Fighter, and Me” series.  Oh let me correct that first line, you see, I was actually curled up in his lap, when he woke me up with a Son-of-a-Bitch.

Trapper: - Hey, I was sleeping, it had better be important…

Author: - Pointing at the screen of his laptop, as he sees his new book’s  Amazon listing for the first time. “I never knew she had a book with the same title…”

Trapper: - Where have you been man, everybody knows that she wrote a series like that.

Author: - Trapper, you know how little I read, and you know that I do not read anything that is in the same genre that I am writing in at the time.

Trapper: - Well yeah, I know that, but this is Sue Grafton man…”

Author: - Well little buddy, I know who Sue Grafton is, at least, I know the name, and that she is a very prolific mystery writer. However, ‘believe it or not’, I have never read even one of her books.  In addition, until this showed up on the screen, I had no idea she has a book with the same title.

Trapper: - I believe you, and I even remember how you finally decided on the title.  You put “Anger words beginning with M” in as a Google search. Then you started checking definitions of words you liked the sound of.

Author: - Right on my little buddy. Do you remember how excited I got when I found that one particular definition of Malice?  It was like a flood gate opened, and the story that I had been trying to write, suddenly began to flow out of me.

Trapper: - How could I forget, if anyone of us wanted to see you, we had to come to your office. Your fingers were flying over that keyboard. So much so that you knocked the “F” key right, off the laptop, and then said a word that begins with “F”.

Author: - Yeah, and I said that word again, when I couldn’t get the key to position correctly on the keyboard, so that it occasionally stuck, or simply wouldn’t work. I am going to have to sell a bunch of books to pay for the new Laptop.

Trapper: - You never did a Title check did you?

Author: - No I did not Trapper; in fact, I never have done one for any of my books. However, this one was special, the “M” tied to the ending of episode 3. Once I found the word Malice, it instantly became the word that, defined the story.

Trapper: - Then I guess we can use a phrase from Crocodile Dundee “No Worries Mate”.

Author: - I have to agree with you there Trapper, especially as fast as both Amazon and Createspace reviewed and published the books.

Trapper: - You’re right there, hours instead of days. Oh and when you talk to Paul Potiki again, tell him he did a great job making my dad look way cool on the cover.

You know, you and I make a pretty good team. My dad taught you well, and it sure beats being out on the porch all the time.  Gosh, I almost forgot the readers. Folks, I know what is on his Kindle, and I can see his books from my spot on his lap. I can guarantee that there is not a Sue Grafton book in this house.

A Great Series for a Book Club - Jasper, Street-Fighter and Me

Allow me to Suggest a Book Club Series

"Jasper, Street-Fighter, and Me"

An fun, easy reading, cozy mystery series that features Maggie McKenzie, a retired USMC Major, and her equally retired USMC Working Dog, Jasper, and the third member of the team, Street-Fighter, a tawny Tom Cat, who looks and acts like a minature lion.

To borrow a term from Twilight, Jasper and Street-Fighter imprinted on each other when Street-Fighter strolled onto Maggie's patio one evening while she and Jasper were enjoying dinner. While Street-Fighter may not have imprinted on Maggie, he did win her heart, and a team of two, became a team of three that night.

At present there are three books that have been released, and a fourth is in the works. The are available in both paperback and digital format through Amazon or CreatSpace. Both "Candie" and "Serial" have 5 Star ratings, and "A Diamond in the Ruff" is 4 Star rated.  And maybe best of all only $0.99 or less for the digital version through Amazon.

The books are not long, ranging between 90 and 120 pages, but the stories are filled with twists and turns, surprises, and action all the way through. Told through Maggies eyes, and from a womans point of view, the stories are fun, and provide lots of areas for discussion for a book club.

The Author may be reached through his gmail account rdn9747@gmail.com about taking question from a book club.

A Tease From - "A Diamond in the Ruff"

A Little Tease from

"A Diamond in the Ruff"

The Action is Starting to Heat Up

It was just a hair under three minutes before my phone rang again. Once again, my caller ID showed the number as restricted.  I picked it up and answered just exactly as I had answered the first call.  This time, there was a very ruff sounding male's voice on the other end of the call.

"You still got my diamonds, Honey?"

I smiled and thought, “I can play the same game buddy,” as I answered "I am not your Honey, and I have no desire to be your Honey either.  I have a name, which I believe that you know, and I expect you to use it.  Now please provide me with your name, and a call back number sir."

"Well sorry Ms. Mckenzi, I didn't think you would get so upset, what with you being a retired Marine, I bet you got called a lot worse than Honey in the Corps."

Now I was starting to get a little pissed with this asshole; "I doubt that you ever spent a day in the Marine Corps, because if you had, you would know that I would have been addressed as Major McKenzie and not Honey, asshole."

And with that, I hung up the phone.

"Okay, gang, when he calls back do I play nice or do we want to piss him off enough that he will come out here?

I heard Jill say, "Start nice, then fuck with him some more. , I think we either have the seller or the courier on the hook with this one."

I then heard the Tactical Unit Commander say, "Maggie and Jill, I agree, but I am going to move two of my team forward to where the lane come out behind the barn.  We just might have both groups very interested."

Jill, who actually had the overall responsibility, as the Bureau was senior, agreed with the commander, just as the phone rang again.  I answered it just as I had every other time, with a polite hello.
The same voice came on the line; "Major Mckenzie, honey, I don't let anybody hang up on me.  You have something that belongs to me, and I want it back right now bitch."

"We sir, even if I knew for sure that it belonged to you, there is no way that I could give it to you right away because you're not here to accept it."

"You have no idea where the fuck I am.  I might be sitting on your back porch for all you would know.  I've done a few special ops in my time, and got paid a hell of a lot more than you did as a Marine."

"Are you going to id. the diamonds for me, or do I hang up again on you, because you don't scare me."

"The name is Jonas, Major Honey, and I bet I can scare the panties right off of you."  Before I could jerk his chain, he rattled off the exact description of the bag, the numbers, and the id number of the largest stones in the bags.

"Well you did you homework well Jonas, you win a bag of diamonds, that is if you have the balls to come and get them from me and Street Fighter. Oh and he does not like people that are not nice to me."

"Major honey, your little pussy, both of them in fact, just might like it when I get my hands on you. You got all of the bags there because I found your little note before the cops sealed off the area.  You're gonna just love what I have in store for you Major Honey."

"Jonas, I don't care if you have Moby's dick, it has been tried before, and his balls ended up somewhere on the ceiling, and he just can't seem to keep those fifty virgins happy."

"Yeah, well this boy don't wear a towel on his head, we American's are a lot smarter Major Honey."

I couldn't resist one more jab, so I added, "Oh I bet you are Jonas, and I liked your little tree drop.  One problem boy, you don't use pine to make a fake limb plug in an oak tree. Even a fucking girl marine knows that ya dumb shit."

I hung up the phone, without a goodbye, or see you later, and looked up at Ann. Who laughed and said, "I don't think that you and Jonas hit is off very well Maggie."

"Aw, I thought I treated him very nicely, for a redneck dick head."

Do you get the feeling that Maggie really doesn't like Jonas?

Coming Soon - A New Detective Series - Jasper, Street fighter & Me

Coming Soon

Episode 1 of the Fun New Series

Jasper, Street Fighter & Me

"Candie Is Not Always Sweet"

Series & Episode Bio:

JASPER, STREET FIGHTER & ME - DETECTIVE SERIES

EPISODE 1

"Candie Is Not Always Sweet"

The series is about a retired Marine Major, (Maggie McKenzie) whom was an MP, Dog Handler and a veteran of two tours in Afghanistan.  She opted for an early retirement, when her father was diagnosed with ALS.  She and Jasper, her border collie, who retired from the Marines along with her, decided to put their skills to use as private detectives after her father passed away.  One evening, while enjoying a dinner on the patio, they were visited by a street wise old tomcat, who won over not jut Maggie, but Jasper as well.  It was apparent right from the beginning that there was something special with this tomcat, who looked more like a small lion than an American Short Hair, which is what he would be classified as.

Suddenly the Detective Agency had a new member of the team, along with a new name.  Their very first Episode is full of twists and turns, while at the same time we learn about some of Maggie's past, including events that took place during in her last tour in Afghanistan.  Together with his new pal Jasper, Street Fighter earns his strips early on, as he and Jasper team up to protect Maggie from a would be killer, but the drama and the actions for the unlikely pair are just beginning…for Street Fighter is a quick learner, and Jasper a good teacher, as they both work to either protect or take the point, which ever helps Maggie the most.

First Review - Out of the Chaos

The First Review is in for

"Out of the Chaos"

By Richard Nurse

Four Stars
And the comment, Ladies this book is for you

Fast-paced mystery with romance!

By Lisa Karlin on September 15, 2015

Format: Paperback

In this page-turning, I-wonder-what-happens-next murder mystery, Detectives Charlotte (who goes by the name Charlie) Nelson and Chuck D'Angelo respond to a nightclub explosion to find utter chaos (as the title of the book implies, chaos is a recurring theme throughout the storyline). However, the Detectives quickly realize that something’s not right, and chaos ensues when people are shot at the scene. Chuck is shot in the leg and Charlie uses her bra and flashlight to apply a tourniquet. She saves his life only to place her own life in danger. It becomes apparent that the real target amid the chaos is Chuck, who has a 16-year-old daughter Julie. Charlie (who lost her husband and son to a drunken driver) is assigned to protect Julie, and Julie shares her theories of what happened and why on that chaotic day. We learn that Charlie (“Florence Nightingale”) is on the hit list, and that the prime suspect is a former army sniper who was just released from prison. Charlie and Julie go into seclusion at a lake house where they have a surprise visitor, and twists and turns (and chaos) ensue, right to the very end of the book. Since this is a book review (and not a book report), I am not giving away the action or the very satisfying ending. Richard Nurse has written a romantic murder mystery, if there is such a thing. He wrote from the woman’s point of view surprisingly well, and the dialogue moves the story along at a fast pace. For people looking for more than a straight murder mystery (especially female readers), this book is for you

Tease

"Out of the Chaos"

  • As promised - The following is from Chapter Two of "Out of the Chaos".

As we began our trek, through the maze of equipment and hoses to where the make-shift morgue, Chuck had spotted where the fire department’s Battalion Chief was commanding the scene from, and headed in his direction for his assessment of the situation.  Battalion Chief Angelo, who knew both Chuckie and I spotted us at about the same time, and waved for us to come over to him.

When we reached Battalion Chief Angelo, he was just finishing giving instructions to an arriving ladder truck. Once he had completed his broadcast, he let us know that there were a total of eight dead at this point, and that there were five still trapped on the upper floors.  He then added that there were ten or so witnesses sitting inside the big rescue truck, waiting to talk to us.

We never got a chance to ask him any questions, as another arriving truck called in, and Battalion Chief Angelo, continued his choreographing of the conflagration, and the efforts to bring it under control. Battalion Chief Angelo was giving each newly arriving truck their assignment over the radio, so that they knew exactly what and where to deploy. Chuck gave the Chief thumbs up and we took our leave, and headed toward the Rescue Truck to see about the witnesses. We both knew that talking to the witnesses, while the information was fresh in their minds, was paramount.  The stories that the dead could tell would not change while we talked to the living.

I was just reaching for my for the transmit button for the headset attached to my radio to bring, our boss, the Chief of Detectives up to date, when I heard the other homicide team that was on duty tonight, call me on the radio.  I directed them to make their way to the Rescue Truck to get statements from the witnesses that were waiting there.  I ended my transmission with a message for the Chief of Detectives, advising him of my directive to our support team.  I knew he had already heard my transmission to them, but I didn’t want him to feel like I was over-riding his authority.  I was the assigned lead detective for this shift, and I had just acted instinctively, based on the new information we had just received from the Battalion Chief.

I had to admit that I was very happy to hear him reply, “Good call Charlie, thank you for the update.” As soon as Chuck was sure the mic was off, he looked at me with a big smile on his face and made marks on the imaginary wall in front of us.  This was his way of telling me that I had scored points with the boss.

We continued making our way through the maze of hose and equipment, until we were finally standing in front of the building next to the scene. We were greeted with the sight of a row of bodies, arraigned so that they were protected from both falling water, and/or debris from the fire, under the facade of what had been the major movie house in the city years ago.  There were eight bodies, at present, each one lying under their own blanket or tarp.

Patrolman Dave Johnson was the only uniformed officer attending to the bodies. Battalion Chief Angelo, had already let us know that officer Johnson had volunteered to maintain a security detail with the bodies to ensure that they were not disturbed prior to the CSI Technicians  and the corner’s people arrival.

Chuck and I both knew that this was probably not the first time that Officer Johnson had performed such duty Officer Dave Johnson was the Command Master Sergeant, and senior MP, for his reserves division, which was part of the 10th Mountain located at Camp Drum.  I looked at Chuckie, and with a smile, not really fitting facial expression for the sight that lay before us, but ten years in homicide, tends to harden us to situations like this. So without changing my facial expression I quietly asked Chuck, “Do you want to wager that Dave is the one responsible for making sure that they were all protected from the elements and residue from the fire, and that he has already checked them out before we got there.

Officer Dave Johnson did not let us down, plus his experiences in combat where also showing when he greeted us with; “Finally a sight worth looking at, and I don’t me you Chuck.” And then he added; “They’re not a pretty sight Charlie.”

I looked over at him, and was somewhat surprised, with his relaxed greeting, to see a look of deep concern on his face, as well as the fact that his service weapon was in his hand. ”I’ll take that as a compliment. You look worried, something that we should know about?”

Without looking back, he added, “Check out the first two on the left.  I’d be willing to bet my next paycheck that not all of their wounds are from the explosion and fire.”

I know that both Chuck’s and my alert level were quickly heightened.  We had worked cases with Officer Dave Johnson before, and knowing his military background, and the fact that he has done three tours in Afghanistan, we always took his observations seriously.

Chuck held out a group of evidence numbers and bags for me to use.  “You can do the checking and tagging Charlie, I’ll cover, and help Dave keep an eye out for any signs of a shooter.”
