Trapper's Sneak Peek from "Two Hearts Joined"

Trapper the Cyber Snoop

With a Sneak Peek from

"Two Hearts Joined"

(By the Flames of Revenge)
A Novel by Richard Nurse
With Susan Nurse

The circumstances couldn’t have been better, for the man and woman who pulled into the parking lot of an old abandoned shirt factory. The buildings of the factory were a part of what used to be the thriving downtown district of Smithville, NY and, tonight, the only nightclub in the downtown area was reopening after being closed down by the city for six months, due to too many violent incidents either inside or just outside of the club.
The occupants of the car had both just recently been released from two separate prisons, and both were in violation of their parole for multiple reasons.  They were in Smithville, and they were not allowed within the city limits, they were armed, at least the male was. They had stolen the car in Trenton, and of course, they were in the company of another convicted felon, each other
The woman sitting behind the wheel definitely showed the effects of her drug use and time in prison. A former high school homecoming queen, and mother of one daughter, she could now only be described as a hard looking woman. Her only comment as her male companion exited the car, was, “You better not fuckin miss, Jonathan.”
Jonathan Pettibone, was dressed in fatigues, but without a single badge, nametag, indication of rank, or any military insignia. He exited the car without either replying to her comment, or even a glance in her direction. As the car pulled away, he shook his head, and began to walk towards the club with a distinct limp.  This limp was not from an injury; rather it was because he had an AR-15 strapped to his right leg, under his fatigue pants. The pockets were full of what he felt was necessary to extract his revenge.
As he limped along, he thought about the woman who had just dropped him off. Danielle had violated her own parole from Albion to pick him up two weeks ago, when he had been released from Fort Leavenworth, U. S. Army Maximum Security Prison.
They both had a single target that they wanted dead, but for two completely different reasons. Sergeant Dave Johnson, had destroyed both of their lives on a single night, sending Pettibone to Leavenworth, and Johnson’s now former wife Danielle, who was already well on her way to becoming a coke whore, firmly down that path.
Pettibone paused before he got to the corner, and reached into the shirt pocket of his fatigues, and pulled out a pair of major’s oak leaves, and pined them onto his collar. He then added three rows of campaign ribbon’s then slipped on his fatigue’s hat. He was now ready to get into the club.
Without pausing to join the end of the line, he limped along the line, laughing to himself as person after person thanked him for his service. When he got to the front of the line he slipped the doorman a twenty, “Think that a disabled vet can get in without waiting in line man?
The doorman slipped the twenty back into Pettibone’s hand, and moved the rope aside to allow him to enter, “Enjoy yourself Major; it’s gonna be one hell of a party tonight.”

Web-Page Updates Plus New Story Sample

Updates to my Web-Site

Nursesnook&Books

Over the last two days, I have worked make the site more user-friendly for mobile users. While the column format, on the Published Works page looked nice on the big screen, it might have caused a case of carpal tunnel if someone wanted the last link on that page. To fix the issue I made the following changes:
  • The Published Works pages now only contains an image of each cover, with a short informational caption below it.  The other data and links are no longer on the page. Each cover image is now a link in itself to a new page on the web-site named "The Link List"
  • The Link List page is exactly what the name implies. Since each of the books is available from a variety of distributors, ie. Amazon, Apple I-Books, Nook, Smashwords, Google Play etc. I have listed each of the three authors that publish under the Nursesnook&Books umbrella, and for each author there are distributor specific button links for each book.  So depending on the platform that you use, you simply select the button for the book of your choice, and it will take you there.

As an added bonus, I also changed the sample, to a section of chapter 9 from Trish's Story.

Nursesnook&Books - Out of the Chaos - Tease - Links

Date:  September 9, 2014

Tease

"Out of the Chaos"

  • As promised - The following is from Chapter Two of "Out of the Chaos".

As we began our trek, through the maze of equipment and hoses to where the make-shift morgue, Chuck had spotted where the fire department’s Battalion Chief was commanding the scene from, and headed in his direction for his assessment of the situation.  Battalion Chief Angelo, who knew both Chuckie and I spotted us at about the same time, and waved for us to come over to him.

When we reached Battalion Chief Angelo, he was just finishing giving instructions to an arriving ladder truck. Once he had completed his broadcast, he let us know that there were a total of eight dead at this point, and that there were five still trapped on the upper floors.  He then added that there were ten or so witnesses sitting inside the big rescue truck, waiting to talk to us.

We never got a chance to ask him any questions, as another arriving truck called in, and Battalion Chief Angelo, continued his choreographing of the conflagration, and the efforts to bring it under control. Battalion Chief Angelo was giving each newly arriving truck their assignment over the radio, so that they knew exactly what and where to deploy. Chuck gave the Chief thumbs up and we took our leave, and headed toward the Rescue Truck to see about the witnesses. We both knew that talking to the witnesses, while the information was fresh in their minds, was paramount.  The stories that the dead could tell would not change while we talked to the living.

I was just reaching for my for the transmit button for the headset attached to my radio to bring, our boss, the Chief of Detectives up to date, when I heard the other homicide team that was on duty tonight, call me on the radio.  I directed them to make their way to the Rescue Truck to get statements from the witnesses that were waiting there.  I ended my transmission with a message for the Chief of Detectives, advising him of my directive to our support team.  I knew he had already heard my transmission to them, but I didn’t want him to feel like I was over-riding his authority.  I was the assigned lead detective for this shift, and I had just acted instinctively, based on the new information we had just received from the Battalion Chief.

I had to admit that I was very happy to hear him reply, “Good call Charlie, thank you for the update.” As soon as Chuck was sure the mic was off, he looked at me with a big smile on his face and made marks on the imaginary wall in front of us.  This was his way of telling me that I had scored points with the boss.

We continued making our way through the maze of hose and equipment, until we were finally standing in front of the building next to the scene. We were greeted with the sight of a row of bodies, arraigned so that they were protected from both falling water, and/or debris from the fire, under the facade of what had been the major movie house in the city years ago.  There were eight bodies, at present, each one lying under their own blanket or tarp.

Patrolman Dave Johnson was the only uniformed officer attending to the bodies. Battalion Chief Angelo, had already let us know that officer Johnson had volunteered to maintain a security detail with the bodies to ensure that they were not disturbed prior to the CSI Technicians  and the corner’s people arrival.

Chuck and I both knew that this was probably not the first time that Officer Johnson had performed such duty Officer Dave Johnson was the Command Master Sergeant, and senior MP, for his reserves division, which was part of the 10th Mountain located at Camp Drum.  I looked at Chuckie, and with a smile, not really fitting facial expression for the sight that lay before us, but ten years in homicide, tends to harden us to situations like this. So without changing my facial expression I quietly asked Chuck, “Do you want to wager that Dave is the one responsible for making sure that they were all protected from the elements and residue from the fire, and that he has already checked them out before we got there.

Officer Dave Johnson did not let us down, plus his experiences in combat where also showing when he greeted us with; “Finally a sight worth looking at, and I don’t me you Chuck.” And then he added; “They’re not a pretty sight Charlie.”

I looked over at him, and was somewhat surprised, with his relaxed greeting, to see a look of deep concern on his face, as well as the fact that his service weapon was in his hand. ”I’ll take that as a compliment. You look worried, something that we should know about?”

Without looking back, he added, “Check out the first two on the left.  I’d be willing to bet my next paycheck that not all of their wounds are from the explosion and fire.”

I know that both Chuck’s and my alert level were quickly heightened.  We had worked cases with Officer Dave Johnson before, and knowing his military background, and the fact that he has done three tours in Afghanistan, we always took his observations seriously.

Chuck held out a group of evidence numbers and bags for me to use.  “You can do the checking and tagging Charlie, I’ll cover, and help Dave keep an eye out for any signs of a shooter.”

Murder in St. Luietz

Sneak Peek

Chapter 11
  St. Luietz – Mid-Morning

The Commissioner performed one of his well-known feats of magic, seemingly, from out of nowhere; he was standing next to the table where they were seated.

In his usual way, he announced his presence with a question. “I trust that this breakfast is a working breakfast and won’t show up on my tab. I believe that you two have a murder to solve.” and without skipping a beat added; “Sonja, as always, it is an honor, when you come back to visit, plus your beauty only helps to enhance the islands natural beauty.”

Sonja gave the Commissioner one of her dazzling smiles, as Gonzo looked up at the Commissioner, and with a smile on his face added; “No, sir, I’m actually buying this breakfast out of my own pocket. We have new information, and a second person of interest. We believe they are both still on this island, and in disguise. We’, as Sonja has graciously offered her assistance, are waiting for the market to open this morning so that we can canvas the vendors. Maria and Felicity discovered last night that one of the persons of interest was spotted there, buying groceries last Thursday.”

“Well, in that case, the markets open in ten minutes. Tell your mother hello for me, Sonja. Detectives…”

Just as suddenly as he had appeared, the Commissioner was gone from the cafĂ©. His way of saying that, they should be on their way to start their morning plan moving as well. Sonja and Maria went to the ladies’ room before their shopping trip, while Gonzo paid the bill.

When they got out to the jeep, Gonzo was waiting for them with a smile on his face. “Damn but the Commissioner paid for our breakfast, so I think we had better get some good information from this. Hop in ladies, and we’ll be on our way.”
